NYC signage company becomes worker-owned cooperative after 50 years in business
Queens, NY — We caught up with the Green Mountain Graphics team four years after the business transitioned to a worker-owned cooperative.
When the previous owner of Green Mountain Graphics started thinking about retirement, selling the business to his longtime employees made the most sense. After all, they knew the company best.
The process of transitioning to a worker-owned cooperative was challenging but employees said it has been personally and financially rewarding. They were specialists in their individual roles, but now as owners, they broadened their skills to learn how to run the business together. Green Mountain Graphics became a cooperative in 2021 after more than 50 years in business.
